I'm on the news - and didn't get in trouble!

Drove to Knoxville today for an audition for the movie, "Into The Wilderness", set in the civil war.
Eh.
I've done better.
It was a long dang day on the road in terrible weather for about 5 minutes in front of the casting director.
But - got to see an actor buddy - John Hedgecloth (nice guy) - that I met awhile back when we were filming for National Geographic's History of Man series (or something like that - I was a viking or some such thing) - and actually meet my agent (Rachele) in person for the first time (she's a lot taller than I would've predicted) (taller than me, even in flats) - (she was in flats - I was wearing boots, with heels) + I ended up the news.
The local Fox affiliate had a news lady person on site taking some shots - barely even noticed she was there - this afternoon John sent me a screen cap.
So, maybe what I had thought was a wasted drive (and lots of work learning dialogue) turned out ok.  Ish.  Not sure.
But my grill was in the camera - so I guess it counts for something.

The 4 pages of dialogue I memorized for the 8 hours on the road.

My agents office.

The movie I was auditioning for.  Dang. Not my finest hour.

But, tomorrow I'll be on set of the movie "The Mule", filming a scene in a dive bar (of course) with Clint Eastwood.  So, I got that going for me.

June 23rd, 1944 - May 1st, 2018

Best and favorite of mom's sisters passed away on May 1st.

This one was hard to take.  Aunt Dotty was the best.  Always present throughout the younger years, she never missed a holiday, birthday, family event, etc.

And she took me to see Elvis Presley when I was 6 years old.
A true gem.

                                                        Even the dog misses her.

Here's the obit. that Aunt Marilu wrote up - did a nice job there:

Dorothy (Dotty) Marie Pessillo
Clearwater, Florida
June 23, 1944 to May 1, 2018

Dotty died on May 1, 2018, after years of dealing with lungs that were never as good as she was. Her last days were filled with love and laughter surrounded by all four of her sisters. She arrived a month early on June 23, 1944 in Daytona Beach, FL to the late Paul and Ruth Pessillo. A 6th generation Floridian, she enjoyed Florida’s weather (but not the hurricanes). She graduated Winter Haven High School in 1962 and moved to Tallahassee to begin a distinguished career with the State of Florida, where she rose to the level of Exec. Secretary to the Head of the Florida Department of Corrections, Louie L. Wainwright.

She earned a BA, cum laude, in Criminology in 1976, from FL State College of Criminology & Criminal Justice and remained an ardent supporter of her ‘Noles,’ always with sympathy to misbegotten Gators’ fans. She received her Juris Doctor from Stetson College of Law in 1983 and soon after took on the role of Assistant State Attorney in the Juvenile Criminal Division of Pinellas County, FL. She achieved a level of respect and admiration that only a few women obtained in that era. She retired in 2000, after 30 years of hard work and dedication to the State of Florida, and began the full time pursuit of other interests in Feather Sound, Clearwater, FL.

Dotty found a passion for film, diving into acting classes and snagging modeling jobs, commercials and movie work. She was active in the FL Motion Picture & Television Assn (FMPTA) and the Sunscreen Film Society and she took great pride in Murder, It’s For The Birds, a tall tale told from the point of view of, and narrated by, a pelican. It will be screened by The Tampa Bay Film Society at their upcoming Movie Night, 7pm on June 19, 2018, at the Holiday Inn Express in Oldsmar FL. (Open to the public, suggested donation $5.00.)

A county music fan she attended many concerts, and of course, the Plant City Strawberry Festival almost every year with her sisters. She made a long desired pilgrimage to Graceland, taking a niece that shared her love of Elvis. A “few” mementos from the gift shop were a trip highlight for both. (They left a couple.)

Dotty is survived by sisters: Judith Thompson, Marilu (Mike) Dempsey, Patricia (Tom) Pridgen, and Karen Bailey. She will be remembered by all for her genuine kindness: sisters, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and cousins. Every member of her large extended family will feel her loss deeply. She never forgot a birthday or important occasion, and she was only a phone call away for advice, comfort and support. Fur-baby, Maximilian (Max) Pessillo, will continue his life of spoiled indulgence with a good friend.

Dotty was preceded in death by her father, Paul Pessillo, whom she lovingly cared for in her home for many years, her step-mother, Delora Pessillo, and mother, Ruth Pessillo.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1955 South Belcher Road, Clearwater FL 33764 at 11am on Friday, June 29, 2018. A Celebration of Dotty’s Life will immediately follow at the Feather Sound HOA Clubhouse, 14845 Feather Cove Lane, Clearwater FL 33762. A burial at sea ceremony will be conducted on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

Memorial donations may be made to one of Dotty’s many charities such as: The Humane Society of Pinellas County, Clearwater FL; Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, and The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast in Clearwater, FL 33760

Family may be contacted at: PessilloSisters@gmail.com or Pessillo, PO Box 162985, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714

Gillian Welch + other stuff

For some reason I forgot to post a couple pictures from the Gillian Welch show at The Georgia Theater in Athens back in April.
Other than the odd woman that absolutely had to come thank me for being there because I reminded her of an episode of Flight of the Conchords where Brett has a dream in which David Bowie advises him to wear an eyepatch to help move his musical career forward and Brett does wear an eyepatch but it doesn't really go that well and hilarity and confusion ensue, it was a great night.

If you haven't seen Gillian and her partner David Rawlings perform live - do it. Just fantastic together and always charming and funny as all get out.
Put it on your 'to do' list.

One of my oldest buddies down in the Florida's asked me to be his best man - and wear a kilt.
Had a great time!

Some good news arrived via email last night:

Thought I'd post the video audition I recorded with Crystal Davis of PhotoSafe Actor's Taping Service - she's great to work with !  The most fun I've had in an audition so far.
Just a few lines + a little ad lib per submission request.

Logan Lucky

Finally caught the movie Logan Lucky on the Netflix-es this past weekend.
My 3 days on set totally paid off.
This is nearly 40 hours of work in the film biz.
Oscar worthy for sure.

(I'm the blurry thing under Daniel Craig's chin.

40 hours = about 4 seconds of screen time.  Seems about right.

I'll be auditioning for a small speaking role in an indie sorta movie tomorrow - as "homeless guy in a wheelchair".  Wish I woulda waited to trim the beard - I had the homeless look fairly nailed there for a second.

These will have to do for now.  A couple shots from the Jacob's Ladder remake that hasn't been released yet.  (Seems way past overdue - usually a bad sign.)

Work busy but had time for a spot on Adult Swim's show, "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell" a few weeks ago.

A couple solid auditions, etc - but no bookings yet.  Same ol', same ol'.

An pictorial update of the last few months:

Spent a couple days on the beach listening to the waves.  Needed that.  Didn't talk to anyone, see anyone, or really do anything.  Just sat there with a cup of coffee (it was cold) and watched and listened.

Casey and I had great seats to see Old Crow Medicine Show at Woodruff Arts Center.  They performed Bob Dylan's album "Blonde on Blonde" front to back and finished with some of their own hits.

Matt Bolick was in town so I drove him over to Central Casting to get registered.

If you look closely, you'll see me and Chad Joyce in Spiderman: Homecoming.  Don't blink!

PS  Matt, Chad, and I may be also have small spots in upcoming Bad Moms 2, Jacob's Ladder, Jumanji, and something else I've forgotten.  Just background stuff so no telling whether we're in or out.

Went for a long ride with friends on my 12th 'canciversary' on November 18th.  Went down to The Whistle Stop Cafe south of Atlanta - where the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was filmed.  Great ride - all back roads - food just so, so.   But glad to be up and riding with friends.
Can't believe all that was 12 years ago.

Update - here's my "resume" as it is so far.  Almost all BG work as of now but hoping that changes soon with a couple recent auditions.

I haven't posted for a while.  No real reason - nothing particular going on but here are some pics from the last couple months.

Here's a screen cap from my work on Turn: Washington's Spies episode 403.  3 long, cold days on set for about a second and a half on screen.

2 of my favorite peoples joined me back in April to see Magpie Salute at The Buckhead Theater.  MS is half the guys from the original Black Crowes line up.  Great times!

These kids!

Chad Joyce and I working the tent life on the set of Jennifer Anniston's new movie, Dumplin' - same plot as Little Miss Sunshine.   I think we can skip this one.  We were on set from 10:30 am until 1:30am and never did much of anything.

Chad and I had just enough time to leave set and catch last call at Action Park.  John R. jumped in for a pretty stellar pic bomb.

A screen cap from the new movie Baby Driver.  I think this is the movie Chad and I met and first worked on a couple years ago.  We spent all day in Gwinnett County prison filming for this one.

Watch the new season of The Walking Dead and you just might catch a bit more of him.  That guy's gonna blow up this year!

Follow the link here to see a bit of Chad and I in some stock footage from the National Geo. shoot last year where we played Vikings and Barbarians.

Long drive this afternoon / evening from Atlanta to Charlottesville, VA for an audition.  Small speaking role on a popular AMC channel series.  Could be fun.  I had 8 hours in the truck to practice so I'm feeling pretty good about it right now - but we'll see how the nerves do tomorrow once I'm in the office in front of the casting director.

Also, the Nat'l Geographic Channel show I did back in late October released a trailer recently.
Origins: The Journey of Humankind airs Monday March 6th.  The trailer looks pretty cool and you can see Chad Joyce at 1:33 playing the viking king.  I'm not sure how much I'll be in the shots - but I definitely killed a guy with a sword that night.  I know that for a fact.
Hoping it makes in on screen.

Watch the trailer here:

I posted these pics a while back but here is the whole viking / barbarian crew in costume on set:
