I win at the game of God-Mothers.

Life is funny.

I was up early again this morning for no reason I can think of at all.
Cousin-brother Ron and I were out until 3 AM and drank a considerable amount (how many liters will fit in the average minivan?) and yet I was up at 7:30 and headed down to coffee.
I saw the same older fella' I saw yesterday reading the paper out front.  Nice guy.  We chatted then I went back for more coffee.
Talked to Heidi who was in for a bachelorette party and was the DD responsible for herding a small army of drunken "maids of honor" (apparently one or more may have lost a little honor the night before.)) .
3 nice ladies sat down to my left and I recommended all the things Cousin-brother Ron and I had done the day before.  We chatted for a sec before they headed off to see the sights.

Then a  twenty-something, pretty blonde sat down at the next table with one of her girlfriends for a serious chat.  I couldn't help but overhear - there was lots of crying and wailing and gnashing of teeth - (only being a little facetious, she really sounded terribly hurt)
When I stepped in to get a Starbucks, I asked the girls to watch my computer for a sec.
I bought myself and the girls a slice of the lemon pound cake as a "I'm really sorry you're going thru a bad time with your boyfriend and/or husband and also thanks a bunch for not stealing my Mac" type gift.  Pound cake goes a long way towards healing many of life's more difficult moments.
It got a brief smile from her anyhow.

When I got back to San Antonio with Cousin-brother Ron, my God-mother (GPL) had baked a pound cake for my birthday, even though my birthday isn't for several weeks.  She just did it b/c I'm here now (and also, she's kinda sweet on me like that ,))

So now I'm part of that long, flowing, pound-cake river of life.  That's kinda neat.

GPL called TSotT to get the "original" recipe.
Good Times.

(Hands off!)
(Mine!!)

Get a load of THIS guy!?!    >>>>

By the by, since you mentioned my birthday, I thought I'd just throw out a few things that make me happy.
What?
Oh, stop it - I told you, correlation does not equal causation.  It's science.  Go look it up.
Jeez, learn to read or sumthin'!!

Annnnyyyyy-hoo...

Some of the finer things I'd rather enjoy:

The first floor layout has a generous living and kitchen/dining area and the upper story with balcony allows for a bedroom and bath.

The interior design of this lane house focuses on built-ins, which provide sufficient storage to keep clutter out of sight and create a comfortable space, and on the application of high end finishing and millwork which adds a touch of elegance. The result is an environment that is both beautiful to look at and comfortable and efficient to live in all in one small package, a wonderful home for a young couple to start a life in.

1956 Les Paul Goldtop VOS
“Gibson Les Paul model. Designed by Les Paul — produced by Gibson — and enthusiastically approved by top guitarists everywhere.” — Original Gibson advertisement circa 1952
Gibson’s introduction of the Les Paul model in 1952 laid the template by which all other electric guitars would be measured, but it would still undergo several key modifications before developing into the iconic version widely known today as the Les Paul Standard. One of the most significant changes to the Les Paul model was the addition of the new Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece in 1956, replacing the trapeze and wraparound tailpieces that had adorned earlier versions. The Goldtop models proved instantly popular with a growing legion of electric blues players, most notably B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Tiger Haynes, and today is one of the most revered and copied pieces of guitar hardware ever developed.
