I posted these 2 stories because I found it a bit ironic that, as Mexico's violence seems to reach new heights with every passing news article, The National Catholic Reporter blamed U.S.guns for that ever-increasing violence.
While I would agree that American's desire for drugs and our gun control policy are certainly contributing to the many issues faced by Mexico, the big issue is the country itself and it's own internal views, laws, and attitudes in the same way that the Columbia's views, laws, and attitudes made it the perfect place for Pablo Escobar to launch his own reign of terror in the '80's.

If the central issue for either of these countries were American's love for drugs and guns then I would think you would find more of these gruesome deaths on American soil.

But outside of the occasional ugly story, you don't.
Even in the worst periods of prohibition or during the lowest lows of the crack epidemic of the '80's, these types of barbaric attacks were never seen.
It's the status quo in Mexico right now.

Political corruption, the special type that seems to be endemic of Central and South America, a long rich history of arbitrary violence, an indifferent, corrupt, and sporadic judicial system, and the lack of the basic belief in the value of life, all contribute to the spiralling death count.
How else could you explain so many people butchered and left on display all over the country?
It's not just one guy, or one group, doing this type of killing.
It's many, many people, all over the country, committing thousands of acts of savagery that would stagger the  average American mind.
Those killers aren't being imported from other countries, they are grown in Mexico, by Mexicans.
I don't say this as an attack on Mexico or Mexicans, but simply to state, these things, by and large don't happen here because of our laws, attitudes, views on life.
We may not be helping with our usage of drugs and desire for high powered weapons but this is a problem of the Mexican system.

NCR: U.S. GUNS, NOT OBAMA, TO BLAME FOR MEXICAN VIOLENCE

by AWR HAWKINS  15 Feb 2014 1199 POST A COMMENT

In the second installation of a three-part series on "gun violence in Mexico," the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) continues to blame the U.S. for gun violence in Mexico, while viewing Fast & Furious as a legitimate attempt at law enforcement which just happened to go wrong.
According to NCR, Obama tried to reinstitute an "assault weapons" ban in the U.S. as a way to keep Mexico safer. He also pledged to "keep increasing the pressure on the gun traffickers."
NCR claims part of the pressure on traffickers included Operation Fast & Furious, which turned out to be a "botched 2009 operation to track gunrunners that resulted in ATF agents losing between 1,400-2,000 firearms," most of which were "assault weapons." Only half were recovered, and one was "used to kill a U.S. border agent," Brian Terry, in December 2010.
Ironically, NCR fails to note this "botched" operation rendered Obama's DOJ culpable in the very things Obama swore to fight against: "assault weapons" and gun trafficking.
After overlooking this, NCR shows Obama tried to fix the problems Fast & Furious created by passing more gun control for border states: specifically, a requirement that multiple purchases of rifles with detachable magazines and a caliber larger than .22 "merit [extra] documentation."
The result? Arms traffickers have adapted to this new rule and are "sending their straw purchasers to states farther north." There they are "buying smaller weapons with semi-automatic capacity."
According to NCR, "gun violence in Mexico" is the result of gun trafficking, straw purchasers, and weapons with "semi-automatic capacity" that can be found in the U.S. Obama has done his best with speeches, Fast & Furious, and new gun control measures for border states, but even these gun control measures were de-funded by a Republican-controlled Congress.
In other words, we are to believe that Mexican gun violence is the fault of the U.S., but Obama has done all he can to rectify it.

In central Mexico, it's all-out war in the streets for control of an entire state that's run and terrorized by a drug cartel
The latest gruesome photos from Mexico's cartel war show headless bodies bagged and wrapped in plastic tape on the side of a road outside Mexico City.

The butchered bodies of two men were found by police early Sunday in the suburb of Nezahualcoyotl, according to reports.
The victims, believed to be around 22 and 55, were bent forward at the waist and bound with heavy-duty tape. A note was found with the bodies, but cops didn't reveal what it said.
It was believed the men were the latest victims of the bloody turf war that has been waging between Mexico's sadistic drug cartels.

Last week the severed heads of four people were found near the front door of a church in the neighboring state of Michoacan, while butchered arms and legs were found elsewhere in the small town of Zacan.

Two days before that, two other severed heads were left in front of a bank in Paracuaro, about three hours north of Mexico City.

The Knights Templar, the most powerful cartel in the region, was thought to be behind the grisly executions.

In response to the violence, militia leader last month took the surprising step of making vigilante fighters part of the local police force in Michoacan.

The agreement meant that some 20,000 citizen rebels — who have taken up arms against the Knights Templar and, at times, federal and local police — would be deputized and receive military training from the government.
