This week's concerts.

Several good concerts on tap this week.

Carolina Story is playing at Eddie's Attic on Wednesday November 7th.
"Ms. X" and I saw Carolina Story when they opened up for Shovels & Rope at The Earl a couple weeks ago.  We both really enjoyed them and look forward to seeing them again at Eddie's.

Thursday night is a tough call.
Trixie Whitley plays Eddie's Attic and it promises to be a great show.  Trixie is the daughter of my all time favorite, Chris Whitley.

I've been listening to Chris Whitley's debut album, Living with the Law, for over twenty years and have not tired of it at all.  I can't think of any other album that I've listened to so many times and have still gotten so much profound joy out of.  (please excuse my dangling participle.)
I really can't.
I'm actually thinking about it now, and all of the other bands or albums or songs seem to have had a "time" in which they were relevant to my life and then went away.
But not "Living with the Law".
I fell under it's spell in 1991 when it was released and I still find it compelling and rich and beautiful.  Chris' lyrics are just the right touch of ethereal, rough, rootsy, and gnawing.  They stick with you and his guitar playing is phenomenal.  All these years later I'm still in awe.

Trixie seems to have inherited her fathers gift and this should be a great show.

Thursday night is also the night that Truth & Salvage Co. come to Smith's Old Bar here in my neighborhood.
I saw T & S several times back in 2009 when they were on tour with The Black Crowes and they were great each time.  They have a kind of The Band meets Eagles sort of California sound.
(insert clever line from The Big Lebowski).
I even met a couple of the guys walking down the street in Asheville just before their show at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.  Seemed like pretty nice guys.
Great songs to sing along to and fantastic harmonies (they have 4 lead singers).
Worth checking these guys out.
